Sound art to me !

The relationship between an individual and a place or experience is, in my opinion, limited when visual aspects are prioritised over the sense of sound. I feel my experience of the world is sound-led as my sense of sight is more limited than most people due to visual impairment. I feel that sound art is a permanent constant in any given part of the world at any given moment, it just involves conscious and intentional listening. For example, the small seemingly meaningless sounds of, for example, a busy road; the construction work, car engines, cafes, snippets of conversation, and the stopping traffic. Each of these individually, are somewhat useless. Thinking about them and what context they are but when they come together it creates an audio or soundscape that without us being able to physically see, distinct connotations of a road appear to us. To me, sound art is almost undefinable due to the variety of art that is encompassed by the term. I find the undefinability of sound art one of the things most appealing about it, it feels almost limitless in terms of constraints. The practice I am most familiar with/ fond of is sound design, however, I would like to expand on this within this course and experiment with other mediums such as installation and performance.
