SAULT is a collective based in London inspired by R&B, Gospel, House, and Disco. SAULT is not explicitly a religious band, however many of their lyrics reference spirituality and a general Lorde, as well as the vocal style having a clear gospel influence. It is interesting to note that the group stayed anonymous for many years, possibly symbolising the spiritual idea of not letting ego take over.

The song ‘Time is Precious’ on the album ‘Air’ has been inspirational to me, especially when reproducing my own choral vocals. I like how the vocals build and fall continuously until towards the end when there is an intense build-up which breaks down with soft lyrics “Don’t waste time cause time is precious…”

 The collective’s latest release; titled ‘Untitled (God)’ (2022) also highlights the religious connection the group has, from the title to the content. The album features many choral vocals, choirs, and prayers.

Track 20 ‘God in Disguise’ includes religious influences as well as synths, I have found myself making something with the same ingredients so to speak… the tracks on this album feature backing vocals that remind me of a church choir, I think it is something to do with the number of voices and the ranges of pitch that they cover.
