Dear Reality DearVR.

For my final piece for this project I wanted to include spacialised sounds to affect the listeners experience of the piece. The plugin ‘Dear reality Dear VR’ was introduced to me in a lecture and I have been using it throughout my creative process of this project. The plugin is effective at changing the direction of sound both horizontally and vertically. However, the limitation of this plugin is that the effects only work on headphones.

I have considered what effects different hights and directions a sound source coming from may have on an individual.

By putting a sound high up I have tried to emulate the aural experience of a church, and tried to impose an overworldly feeling. I put the vocal recordings which sounded choir like high up, this represented the idea of heaven and higher powers.

By putting a sound low down my intentions was to create difference in comparison to the high up sounds, I placed the instruments at the lowest level (these were two synths).

By putting a sound behind it is thought to make the listener feel on edge and more aware of the sound, this is because when we can hear something behind us we must asses if the sound source is of threat to us. I placed a sample of Pauline Oliveros and metal resonances behind, it felt appropriate considering she is speaking about listening to being similar to consciousness, this coming from behind will make a listener more aware of the details within the clip.

I feel that using DearVR has enhanced my work and added depth that was holding the piece back. The feature to change the room and size of the room has also been effective, I mostly used drapes and glass.
