The DAS feedback methods were created by DAS Theatre, a university in Amsterdam, to make group feedback and crits more critically engaging and stimulating. The DAS feedback method can help to understand the reception of the work by choosing an appropriate feedback method.
There are ten options for receiving feedback, the person receiving feedback can choose from: Presenters’ Questions, One-to-One, Affirmative feedback, Perspectives, Open Questions, Open Discussion, Concept Reflection, Tips and Tricks, and Personal Letter. Each feedback method has individual strengths and weaknesses and provides different types of critical feedback. The variety of feedback methods is beneficial as choosing what you might need guidance on and being specific with the feedback you need, which results in more concise and productive feedback.
The ten feedback methods allow more tailored and constructive feedback depending on what individuals want to know/ change/ improve about their work. By using the concept reflection method, I was asked to explain elements of the project that the group found more ambiguous. By doing this, I gained more confidence in the concept of the work and realised the gaps within the idea that I felt should be revisited. This particularly helped when writing my reflective report for the submission, as I realised the most important aspects of the work and could articulate them strongly.
I found using the DAS feedback methods a refreshing change from the typical crits we do at uni. I enjoyed the option to choose and felt that I could help my peers more through their specific desired areas of improvement.
