Researching technology

If there were to be audio input/ output with technology for this installation, it would be chosen based on the location of the sculpture. We have been discussing where we imagine the installation could go, Ideally, it could be installed in a gallery space, not like a white cube, but somewhere public and indoors. Realistically, the installation will likely exist outdoors in a place that is free for us to use. If the booth were to be installed outdoors for a longer duration the technology must be suitable for all weather conditions.

If the installation were outdoors, I would choose to use something like the Superlux D112C for a microphone. Although it is small, the omnidirectional polar patterns would mean that it could pick up a lot of sound from the booth.

For a speaker, I think the Adastra Active Weatherproof Horn Speaker would look really great with the confessional booth.

I have not used either of these before; however, I can imagine that the combination would produce a sonic quality that is not technically ‘good’. I am not aspiring to create the crispest, most high-quality sound; in fact, the opposite. I think there is great value in a slight alteration of the voice through the playback technology we use, a low-fi fuzz that to me symbolises simplicity and maybe honesty. I think this would work well both sonically and visually.
