Consensus decsion making is about making decsions that everyone supports, or at least can accept. Consensus is neither compromise nor unanimity – it aims to incorparate everyone’s best ideas and most important concerns, through respectful and equal dialogue and listening. The idea is that if everyone agrees to a decsion actions are more likely to happen and be more effective due to the groups investment in the decsion. At the core of consensus decsion making is the ideology that people should have full control over their lives and that power should be shared by all
Conditions for consensus; Common goal, commitment to reaching consensus, trust and openness, sufficient time, clear process, active participation. By having clear and already decided conditions for descion making, descions can be made effectively and fairly, all participants of the group will have an understanding of the expecations involved in participating
Guidlines for consensus descion making; think before you speak, communicate clearly, communicate if you dont understand, be respectful and trusting, be willing to work towards the solution thats best for everyone, listen actively, dont be affraid of disagreement
Faciliatators is the term used for a designated person(s) in the group who is in charge of ensuring the tasks for the meeting get done.they keep the meeting focused and make sure people dont dominate the discussion. The fasilitators shouldn’t have more power than others in the group and must stay neutral.
Consensus descion making has many ideas and theories of working together I agree with. I will be considering methods of consensus decsion making throughout the collaberation unit. Within creative collaberation consensus decsion making is important as at its core everyone involved in the decsion making has to a agree before actions are taken. As sound is considered secondary within our ocularcentric society, prehaps it will be important to discuss ways of decsion making with my collaberator(s) in the early stages of the project to ensure working and communication styles allaign.
