Project file.

To make the project as easy to work on as possible I ensured all files were labelled and grouped appropriately. Although advised by a tutor to use ProTools for this project, after trying to use it in class a few times and really struggling with it I decided it was in the best interest of the project to use software I already felt comfortable with to ensure I made the highest quality piece I could.

As an experiment I processed bird song recordings that I had gathered. Using Corpus was very interesting as I haven’t explored the resonators within Ableton before. A combination of Corpus and EQ made for the perfect mystical background music which I felt fitted with the text nicely.

The Bee sound effect was a product of a lot of trial and error when experimenting with Ableton’s Operator. By changing parts of the instrument slowly, I was able to gradually create a more bee-like sound, using volume to add a sense of realness to the bee. After some research, I discovered that bees buzz in the key of C. This inspired me to base any musical elements around the key of C.

Using EQ to filter out low frequencies such as cars driving past was the most effective way I found to correct the inescapable noise pollution in London.
