One avenue of professional and creative development I am considering is doing a Master course. If I do a masters I will wait to do so, and start no sooner than a year after graduating. I think it’s important to take a break from education, especially with the financial costs of doing a masters, I would want to start in the right headspace.
The reasons for me wanting to do a masters are; because I really enjoy being in education, I appreciate the encouragement to make things, I have been considering working in education later in my career.
The reasons I am put off doing a Masters are because of the finical cost (of the course itself and of limitations it brings to working) and the fear of doing it in the wrong area.
Sound Arts – LCC
I have considered continuing my studies on the Sound Arts course however I am unsure this will be the best use of my time and money. I think it would be good because I already know that the recourses, spaces, and teaching are extremely high quality, however I have heard the curriculum is disappointing in comparison with the BA. Though I’m not sure the course would be right for me, it is worth considering the alumni discount that would be available (20%).
Art & Politics – Goldsmiths
As my practice centres politics, Art & Politics at Goldsmiths sounds like it could be very interesting. As this course is a different subject area to my BA it could be a valuable use of time and money, it could be an opportunity to learn about art from a new perspective and engage with different academic materials I wouldn’t come across otherwise.
Fine Art – Central Saint Martins
As my practice is primarily installation based and engages heavily with physical material, a masters in fine art that includes a studio space could be a useful way to develop my practice. This course appeals to me as a studio space and the community it provides would be beneficial in developing my ideas and practice. The access to workshops and facilities would also be useful within the realisation of my projects.
